This education was held for about 400 students of Ssangdong Elementary School in Chowol-eup, Gwangju City, providing accurate information on the side effects of drug misuse and the dangers of narcotics to foster proper attitudes and values regarding the use of medicines.
As the issue of drug and narcotics misuse has become serious among teenagers and people in their twenties recently, conducting effective education during the elementary school years can bring about long-term changes.
To this end, the city aimed to stimulate children's curiosity and effectively deliver educational messages by moving away from the traditional boring lecture format and using magic performances.
Gwangju City expects that through this education, children will learn about the risks of drug and narcotics misuse and develop the ability to make correct decisions regarding safe drug use.
A Gwangju City official stated, “Attitudes and behaviors related to drug and narcotics misuse formed during adolescence affect adulthood as well,” adding, “We will strive to prevent drug misuse issues in the community, including among youth, and create a safe environment for medicine use.”
