IEL Science "EyeTronics, Successful C-ITS Demonstration Test of Future Autonomous Driving Technology"

IEL Science's subsidiary Aitronics announced on the 19th that it has successfully completed the "Next-Generation Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS) Communication Technology Demonstration Test Environment Construction Project," a future autonomous driving technology led by Korea Expressway Corporation.

Discussions surrounding the national C-ITS communication method have been ongoing for about four years since the launch of the joint research team in November 2019. During this period, after performance comparison tests between Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) and cellular network-based vehicle communication technology (LTE-V2X) in vehicle mobility environments, LTE-V2X was finally confirmed as the single standard in December 2023.

The performance comparison tests were conducted in various environments, including △maximum effective communication range △communication latency △maximum communication performance in congested situations △communication effectiveness inside tunnels △verification of basic services on both private and public roads. Aitronics participated in these tests, proving the technical superiority of LTE-V2X, further advancing core autonomous driving technologies and securing competitiveness.

Aitronics, after obtaining the first domestic certification for LTE-V2X-based Roadside Units (RSU) and On-Board Units (OBU), is preparing for infrastructure expansion and aftermarket entry according to the Korea Expressway Corporation’s future business roadmap. In January, it also completed patent registration for an integrated V2X (Vehicle to Everything) terminal that combines vehicle video recording device (black box) technology.

An Aitronics representative stated, “Our LTE-V2X solution adopts globally validated technologies based on Qualcomm and Autotalks chips,” adding, “We have also successfully completed the Electrical Appliances Safety Certification (KC certification) and the standard conformity tests by the Korea Information and Communications Technology Association related to this.”

He continued, “We were also selected for the autonomous driving future vehicle convergence platform construction project and are smoothly securing a driving behavior database (DB) for mixed mid-to-high-speed (general + autonomous driving) driving scenarios,” adding, “We plan to expand the influence of autonomous driving technology in both domestic and international markets.”
