Yeongju City, First Introduction of Eco-Friendly Electric and Low-Floor Buses

Leading the Promotion of Mobility Rights for Transportation-Disadvantaged and the Establishment of Eco-Friendly Transportation Systems

Yeongju City in Gyeongbuk Province will introduce and begin operating two electric low-floor buses on the 19th to enhance mobility convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups and establish an eco-friendly transportation system.

At the test ride ceremony held at the Yeongju Passenger Bus Garage on the day, about 30 people including Mayor Park Nam-seo of Yeongju, National Assembly member Lim Jong-deuk, provincial and city council members, and transportation company officials participated to test ride the electric low-floor buses and celebrate their introduction.

The newly introduced electric low-floor buses will be primarily assigned to major city routes (No. 1, 3, 5, and 8) and will start full operation from the 20th. The city plans to add three more buses by next year to further expand mobility rights for transportation-vulnerable groups.

Mayor Park Nam-seo of Yeongju said, “The introduction of these electric low-floor buses will serve as an opportunity to enhance mobility convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups and improve the public transportation environment for citizens,” adding, “We will continue to actively pursue policies to improve public transportation services.”

In addition to electric low-floor buses, the city continues efforts to improve transportation conditions and mobility rights through various transportation means for vulnerable groups, such as the special transportation services ‘Bureum Call’ and ‘Haengbok Taxi.’
