Launch of 'Postpaid Climate Companion Card' with No Need for Charging... Includes Credit and Debit Functions

Cooperation with 9 Card Companies... New Service Launch
Applications Accepted from the 25th... Available from the 30th
No Need for Recharge or Refund... Includes Youth Discount

A postpaid Climate Companion Card that requires no charging will be launched. It is a system that automatically settles payments based on the user's transportation usage amount, and if the transportation fee exceeds a fixed amount on the payment date, unlimited public transportation benefits are applied, providing discounts on the excess amount.

On the 19th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will issue the 'Postpaid Climate Companion Card,' which can be used for both general purchases and public transportation with a single card, starting from the 25th.

The newly launched postpaid Climate Companion Card includes features such as ▲credit and debit card payment ▲automatic billing based on usage amount ▲usage without separate charging or refund ▲additional benefits by card company. The first service launch date is the 30th, with pre-issuance applications available from the 25th and registration on the T-money website starting from the 28th. Participating companies include T-money and major card companies. Seoul has completed consultations with nine card companies including Shinhan, KB Kookmin, NH Nonghyup, Lotte, BC, Samsung, Woori, Hyundai, and Hana Card.

To receive fare benefits with the issued postpaid Climate Companion Card, users must register on the 'T-money Card & Pay' website. Only after completing the card number registration process on the T-money website will the postpaid card be applied as a Climate Companion Card, so users must register before use. If the postpaid Climate Companion Card is used without registration after issuance, the full amount of public transportation usage will be charged.

The postpaid Climate Companion Card applies automatic settlement based on the user's transportation usage amount. If the transportation fee exceeds a fixed amount by the payment date, which is the end of the month (30th), unlimited public transportation benefits are applied, and discounts are given on the excess amount. For example, if the usage is below the fixed amount with the postpaid Climate Companion Card, only the actual usage amount will be charged, just like a regular transportation card, allowing convenient use without concerns about refunds.

The postpaid Climate Companion Card allows fixed-amount use of public transportation from the 1st to the end of each month. If the month ends on the 30th, KRW 62,000 is charged; if on the 28th, KRW 58,000; and if on the 31st, KRW 64,000. If usage exceeds the fixed amount, Seoul City covers the excess. However, according to each card company's billing standards, Shinhan, KB Kookmin, Lotte, and Samsung Cards apply billing discounts (fixed billing), while NH Nonghyup, BC, Hyundai, and Hana Cards will apply cashback or card payment discounts in the following month.

Youth discounts are applied similarly. Based on a 30-day month, users can use the card at a discounted fare of KRW 7,000 less. For a 30-day month, KRW 55,000 (KRW 7,000 discount) is charged (or cashback), KRW 51,460 (KRW 6,540 discount) for a 28-day month, and KRW 56,770 (KRW 7,230 discount) for a 31-day month. Additionally, for Ddareungi (Seoul’s public bike system), which was available with the prepaid Climate Companion Card, usage fees will be charged based on the user's choice. KRW 1,000 per day is charged, with a maximum of KRW 3,000 charged for usage of three days or more, maintaining the existing fare system.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government stated that when using the postpaid Climate Companion Card, users must tag on and off to enjoy unlimited public transportation without inconvenience. If a user fails to tag off twice, public transportation use will be suspended for 24 hours, so caution is required. Yoon Jong-jang, Director of the Seoul Transportation Office, said, "The 'Climate Companion Card,' which is used by about 650,000 people daily and loved by many, now offers the strongest benefits ever by adding credit and debit payment functions. We expect it to serve as an innovative service that encompasses both transportation and daily convenience." He added, "We will continue to develop diverse and advanced specialized services to continuously expand convenience for citizens."
