Freelance announcer-turned-broadcaster Kim Najung (32) claimed that she was forcibly made to inhale drugs, and the police have announced plans to summon her for questioning.
On the 18th, a representative from the Narcotics Investigation Division of the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency stated, "The suspect has been investigated twice so far at the Incheon International Airport Police Unit and has been transferred to the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency, which has jurisdiction over her residence." He added, "After a preliminary investigation, we plan to summon her for questioning one or two more times." Regarding Kim Najung’s claim of forced drug inhalation, he explained, "We first learned of this through a public statement released to the media. We will verify the facts through investigation."
Earlier, on the 10th, Kim Najung stirred controversy by posting on her social media account before departing from Manila, Philippines, "I confess to having used drugs in the Philippines." She said, "Late at night, airport staff, passengers, and immigration officers were all filming me, and like in The Truman Show, I tried to avoid a drug smuggling incident by discarding my carry-on and all my bags." She also appeared to ramble, saying, "I feel like I might die in some way due to my delusions, so I can't board the plane."
Immediately after returning to Korea, Kim Najung was questioned for about two hours at Incheon International Airport, and a rapid drug test showed a positive reaction for methamphetamine. On the 18th, through her legal representative, she released a statement saying, "I went to the Philippines to promote beauty products and launch an underwear brand, where I met a young entrepreneur named Mr. A. The rumors about a 'sponsor' are not true." She claimed, "While somewhat intoxicated from drinking, for unknown reasons, Mr. A tied my hands and blindfolded me." She further alleged, "During that process, Mr. A made me inhale smoke, and when I tried to avoid it, he forced me to inhale it using something like a 'tube'." Her lawyer added that videos capturing the situation remain on her phone, which can prove that Kim Najung was in a state unable to resist. Finally, the lawyer stated, "Kim Najung confessed to drug use urgently to request rescue, not to admit voluntary drug use. As a victim, she intends to correct this in subsequent procedures. We ask that other speculations be restrained and that you offer your support."
