[Good Morning Stock Market] US Stocks Close Mixed... Possibility of Sector Differentiation '↑' in Domestic Market

The New York stock market closed mixed. The 'Trump rally,' which accelerated after the presidential election, has entered a lull. On the 19th, the domestic stock market is expected to focus on movements in artificial intelligence (AI) and electric vehicle-related stocks. Nvidia fell after reports emerged that its latest AI chip, Blackwell, is experiencing server overheating issues ahead of its earnings announcement. Tesla surged on expectations of eased autonomous vehicle regulations.

On the 18th (local time) in the New York stock market, the blue-chip-focused Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 43,389.6, down 55.39 points (0.13%) from the previous trading day. The large-cap S&P 500 index rose 23 points (0.39%) to 5,893.62. The tech-heavy Nasdaq index ended trading at 18,791.81, up 111.68 points (0.6%).

By stock, Tesla rose while Nvidia fell. Tesla increased 5.62% following foreign media reports that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is seeking to ease autonomous vehicle regulations. Conversely, Nvidia dropped 1.29% amid news that its latest AI chip, Blackwell, is facing server overheating problems. Nvidia is scheduled to announce its earnings this week.

The domestic stock market is expected to show limited index gains. Han Ji-young, a researcher at Kiwoom Securities, said, "Due to the stock price differentiation among major U.S. stocks such as Tesla's weakness and Nvidia's weakness, as well as U.S. interest rate burdens and short-term profit-taking from the previous day's sharp rise, the index's upward momentum is expected to be limited."

Along with this, sectoral differentiation is expected to appear. Kim Ji-hyun, a researcher at KB Securities, explained, "With concerns over the delay in Nvidia Blackwell's launch and mixed expectations for autonomous driving regulation easing, sectoral differentiation in the domestic stock market is likely to proceed. The effect of Samsung Electronics' share buyback and whether the positive sentiment continues following the launch of the Value-Up Fund are also key factors."

Additionally, since there are forecasts that the U.S. Federal Reserve's (Fed) interest rate cuts will be more gradual than the market expects, it is advised to refrain from an overly optimistic stance. Fed Chair Jerome Powell stated last week that there is no need to rush interest rate cuts.

Researcher Han Ji-young emphasized, "Uncertainty over U.S. interest rates and Nvidia's earnings scheduled for later in the week could cause stock price volatility, especially in the U.S. stock market where valuation pressures have increased. While the domestic stock market may face limitations in its rebound momentum, it is necessary to avoid strategies that further expand pessimistic positions during this process."
