SK Telecom announced on the 19th that it has successfully completed the 6th cohort of the 'SKT AI Fellowship,' a program aimed at nurturing talent in the future artificial intelligence (AI) field.
The SKT AI Fellowship is a program where university (graduate) students conduct research on AI topics and gain practical experience through mentoring with current developers. SKT has been running this program for six years since 2019 to cultivate the next generation of AI talent.
On the afternoon of the 19th, SKT held a graduation ceremony for the SKT AI Fellowship at the SK T Tower Suprex Hall and plans to award a total prize money of 12 million KRW to outstanding research teams.
The 6th cohort of the SKT AI Fellowship consisted of 15 teams and 44 students. Since May, the students selected one of three AI technology areas?generative AI, computer vision and media, or network infrastructure AI?to conduct their research projects.
The outstanding research teams of this cohort include four teams: the Korea University team that researched automated data intelligence for introducing AI data analysts; the Sungshin Women’s University team that developed voice phishing detection technology using generative AI; the Seoul National University team that studied video-based advertisement content layout generation; and the Kyung Hee University and Hanyang University team that researched 5G green AI algorithm development.
The four teams selected for outstanding projects wrote research papers and filed multiple patents through the SKT AI Fellowship, achieving results such as applying these to commercial services. They will present their achievements at the graduation ceremony.
Ko Jung-hyun, a student from Korea University selected as part of the outstanding teams of the 6th SKT AI Fellowship, said, "Researching AI technology with current developers at SKT was a very valuable experience, and I will continue to grow further, building on the good results obtained this time."
Graduates of the 6th cohort will receive the privilege of exemption from the first round of SKT’s new employee recruitment process and will have the opportunity to attend an alumni program to network with graduates from cohorts 1 through 5.
