Fire on Escalator at Dongdaemun Station Line 4... Temporarily No Stops

Normal Operation Resumed After About One Hour

At around 9:40 PM on the 18th, a fire broke out on the escalator at Exit 9 of Dongdaemun Station on Seoul Subway Line 4 in Jongno-gu, Seoul, causing the subway to pass through without stopping for a time.

According to Seoul Metro, smoke from the fire spread inside the station, resulting in 11 trains on the upward line toward Danggogae Station and 10 trains on the downward line toward Oido Station passing through Dongdaemun Station on Line 4 without stopping for about an hour. Normal operation resumed around 10:43 PM.

The fire was completely extinguished at around 10:46 PM, about an hour later. Passengers inside the station evacuated due to the fire, and four people inhaled smoke and received on-site treatment before returning home.

The fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
