Kim Dong-cheol, KEPCO President, "We Must Bet Our Lives on Expanding Future Power Grids"

KEPCO, Company-wide Pledge Meeting to Unite Capabilities for Power Grid Expansion

Kim Dong-chul, President of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), stated, "We must mobilize all company resources and capabilities to the fullest to make the expansion of the future power grid a top priority."

On the 18th, President Kim held the "Company-wide Pledge Rally for Power Grid Expansion Capability Consolidation" at KEPCO headquarters in Naju, saying, "Timely expansion of the power grid is the core of KEPCO's fundamental task of 'stable power supply' and an essential national mission supporting future advanced industries such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence."

Kim Dong-cheol, KEPCO President, "We Must Bet Our Lives on Expanding Future Power Grids" On the 18th, Kim Dong-chul, President of KEPCO, held the 'Company-wide Pledge Meeting for Power Grid Expansion Capability Consolidation' at the Naju headquarters, emphasizing the necessity of stable power grid expansion.

This pledge rally was held to build internal and external consensus on the importance of power grid expansion, which is directly linked to national competitiveness, and to publicly demonstrate KEPCO's strong commitment to project execution.

KEPCO has established the "10th Long-term Transmission and Substation Facility Plan" worth 56.5 trillion KRW, setting goals to increase transmission lines and substations by 60% and 40%, respectively, by 2036. However, construction has been delayed due to decreased acceptance of power facilities by local residents and municipalities, causing difficulties.

To resolve this, KEPCO is working with the government and the National Assembly to expedite the enactment of the "Special Act on Expansion of National Power Grid." Internally, KEPCO plans to do its best to shorten construction periods while continuously enhancing acceptance through resident briefings and consultations with local governments.

Last month, KEPCO gathered internal opinions for timely power grid expansion. On the 11th, a company-wide forum was held to derive the "Five Core Agendas" for timely power grid expansion. Specifically, these include ▲ proactive power grid expansion in preparation for future power demand ▲ establishment of a dedicated site selection organization for rapid construction of the national backbone grid supporting advanced industries ▲ creation of a "Power System Committee" to consolidate company-wide capabilities for timely power grid expansion ▲ strengthening communication with local governments and residents to broaden understanding of power grid expansion ▲ expanding compensation scope and establishing support systems aligned with public expectations.

President Kim urged, "Power grid construction is essential not only for stable power supply but also for fostering future advanced industries and strengthening the global competitiveness of the power industry. Let us unite as one company and vigorously promote the five core agendas."
