"Raise the International Status of Gyeongju"
Gyeongju City announced on the 18th that it paid a courtesy call on President Yoon Suk-yeol in Lima, Peru, the host city of the 2024 APEC Summit.
Mayor Ju Nak-young of Gyeongju, who is visiting Lima, met with President Yoon on the morning of the 17th (local time) at the Westin Hotel Lima and requested active support and interest for the successful hosting of the ‘2025 Gyeongju APEC Summit.’
On the morning of the 17th (local time), the Gyeongju City delegation visited President Yoon Suk-yeol at the Westin Hotel in Lima, Peru, and took a commemorative photo. Also accompanying the delegation were Kim Seok-ki, a member of the People Power Party, and Lee Dong-hyeop, chairman of the Gyeongju City Council.
President Yoon urged the Gyeongju delegation to “do their best to raise the international status of Korea and Gyeongju through the ‘2025 Gyeongju APEC Summit.’”
The Gyeongju delegation then moved to the Lima Convention Center, where the 2024 APEC Summit was held, toured the facilities firsthand, and inspected the event preparations and operations under the guidance of officials from the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Gyeongju City expects this visit to serve as valuable reference material for the preparation of the ‘2025 Gyeongju APEC Summit.’
On the following day (local time, the 18th), they plan to meet with Choi Jong-wook, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Peru, the Mayor of Lima, and the APEC Peru Chairperson to share Peru’s experience in hosting the summit and operational know-how.
Mayor Ju Nak-young of Gyeongju emphasized, “This visit to Peru is an important opportunity for Gyeongju to leap forward as a global city,” adding, “It will be an occasion to promote Gyeongju’s history and culture to the world and strengthen its image as the next APEC host city.”
