Dragonfly, FPS King’s Return ‘Special Force Remastered’ Successful Demo at G-STAR 2024

Dragonfly, FPS King’s Return ‘Special Force Remastered’ Successful Demo at G-STAR 2024

Dragonfly announced on the 18th that it successfully completed a game demonstration of ‘Special Force Remaster’ for global partners and domestic and international publishers at G-STAR 2024 held at BEXCO in Busan.

The demonstration received high praise from game industry professionals worldwide, further raising expectations for Dragonfly’s upcoming title.

At the international game exhibition G-STAR 2024, held from the 14th to the 17th, Dragonfly participated in the B2B exhibition hall, showcasing the ‘Special Force Remaster’ demo and introducing development plans for next year to industry insiders. The game is the official sequel to ‘Special Force,’ which has been serviced worldwide since its release in 2004, with Park Cheol-seung, Dragonfly’s founder and executive director who led the development of ‘Special Force’ and ‘Karma,’ serving as the executive producer.

Producer Park Cheol-seung personally demonstrated the game at G-STAR and revealed plans to complete the beta version by 2025. Park stated, “The biggest reason ‘Special Force’ has been serviced globally for the past 20 years is because of its unique gun recoil, movement mechanics, map balance, and its popularity as an e-sports FPS game where teamwork and tactical play are crucial to players worldwide.” He added, “In this remastered version, we plan to focus on developing realistic graphics and implementing the latest real-world weapons and equipment used in modern warfare, along with strengthening e-sports content.”

Dragonfly unveiled the ‘Global e-Sports System’ as a key development goal for ‘Special Force Remaster.’ This system allows users to freely form teams, participate in ongoing online leagues to accumulate points, and advance to seasonal tournaments. Regular users who do not participate in matches can freely watch the leagues. Additionally, convenience features for SNS integration and personal broadcasting will be provided.

Producer Park explained, “Over the past 20 years of service, ‘Special Force’ has seen irregular tournaments and leagues held independently in Korea and various regions worldwide. In this remastered version, we plan to implement a system within the game that enables general users to participate in tournaments, spectate, and broadcast personally, allowing users domestically and internationally to enjoy e-sports. Furthermore, we aim to expand this into a global e-sports platform where users worldwide can participate in leagues together.”

At the G-STAR 2024 B2B hall, Dragonfly confirmed strong interest in the game through active communication with global partners and domestic and international publishers. Various industry stakeholders highly evaluated the gameplay and vision of ‘Special Force Remaster’ and discussed cooperation plans for next year’s business. The exhibition was described as an important opportunity to further solidify Dragonfly’s global presence.

In addition to ‘Special Force Remaster,’ Dragonfly also unveiled ‘Down Downtown,’ co-developed with Japanese game developer Punkroo Japan. ‘Down Downtown’ is scheduled to be sequentially serviced in Japan and Korea next year. Punkroo Japan, headquartered in Tokyo, is a company invested in by ‘Derage,’ led by renowned Japanese game developer Okamoto Yoshiki, who is known for producing iconic games such as ‘Street Fighter 2,’ ‘Biohazard,’ and ‘Monster Hunter.’

Producer Park stated, “Building on the successful demonstration at Busan G-STAR 2024 and the enthusiastic response from the industry, we will make 2025 the year of Dragonfly’s leap forward through PC online and mobile games.”

Meanwhile, the gameplay demonstration video of ‘Special Force Remaster’ can be viewed on the official ‘Special Force’ YouTube channel.
