Trump Appoints 'Musk Associate' Brendan Carr as FCC Chairman

Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, on the 17th (local time) nominated Brendan Carr, an FCC commissioner who has advocated for deregulation of technology, as the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for his second administration.

In a statement, Trump said, "Carr is currently the senior Republican commissioner of the FCC and previously served as the FCC's legal counsel." He added, "I first nominated Carr to the FCC in 2017, and he was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate three times. Based on his excellent achievements, I will nominate him as chairman."

Commissioner Carr is known as a representative of the conservative stance among the five FCC commissioners. He has taken a pro-business approach, opposing censorship of social networking services and big tech companies. However, he has advocated for strong sanctions against Chinese companies such as Huawei on national security grounds. He is also known as a longtime close associate of Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla.
