Expectations for Promoting Bicycle Use
Jinju City in Gyeongnam will pilot the shared bicycle service ‘Hamo Tago’ starting from the 18th.
‘Hamo Tago’ is a shared bicycle system designed to allow citizens who do not own bicycles to easily use them, operating through an unmanned rental method.
The city has initially introduced shared bicycle rental stations at 35 key locations along the Namgang River (17 stations) and Chungmugong-dong (18 stations). Anyone aged 15 or older can use the service after completing the rental procedure, and it will be free of charge during the pilot operation period.
To use the service, users access the Hamo Tago website, sign up as members, check the locations of available bicycles, and then simply tap the registered rental card on the lock device to start using the bicycle. After use, bicycles can be returned at any designated rental station.
The introduction of ‘Hamo Tago’ is the result of Jinju City’s efforts to build infrastructure as a bicycle hub city. It aims to create a foundation for citizens to approach and use bicycles as a convenient means of transportation, thereby promoting bicycle usage.
A Jinju city official stated, “Through the pilot operation until next year, we will listen to and reflect citizens’ feedback to supplement and improve the shared bicycle system.”
Jinju City has enrolled all citizens in bicycle insurance and operates a citizen bicycle safety education center to establish a safe bicycle culture and promote wider usage.
