Hwaseong-si Builds 'AI Video Surveillance System' for CCTV Monitoring

Automatic Video Monitoring...Reducing Safety Management Blind Spots
Mayor Jeong: "Dramatic Enhancement in Crime Prevention and Disaster Response"

'AI detects abnormal signs on CCTV in real time.'

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province has established a video surveillance system integrating advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology into CCTV. On the 16th, Hwaseong City announced that it has built an AI video surveillance system utilizing approximately 12,500 CCTV cameras within the city to create a smart safety city aimed at crime prevention and enhancing citizen safety.

The newly established system advances the existing video surveillance environment by automatically monitoring real-time CCTV footage using AI technology. Previously, monitoring personnel directly checked CCTV footage to detect abnormal signs, but the new system enables AI to detect and analyze these signs in real time. Accordingly, monitoring personnel only need to review the analysis results, which reduces blind spots in safety management and dramatically improves work efficiency, the city explained.

The city added that with this system, various integrated control functions such as ▲Video Management System (VMS) ▲Geographic Information System (GIS) ▲Dashboard are provided within a single system, saving time and costs and allowing flexible response to future system expansions.

The city plans to automatically store and analyze AI video analysis results as big data to identify issues in specific areas in real time and utilize them for establishing customized safety policies.

Jung Myung-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong City, said, "This system will become a core infrastructure for urban safety," and added, "Through AI technology, we will significantly strengthen citizen safety in various fields such as crime prevention, traffic management, and disaster response."
