Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will operate the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and initiate 24-hour emergency duty until March 15 next year, the snow removal period.

The main focus is a total road length of 367 km. It will intensively manage 21 main and auxiliary arterial road routes, side roads less than 15 meters wide, and 89 vulnerable steep slope points. A total of 47 snow removal vehicles, 173 auxiliary equipment units, and 1,528 tons of snow removal agents including 535 tons of calcium chloride will be deployed to prevent winter disasters.

Above all, emphasis is placed on establishing a response system for initial snow removal. Real-time weather conditions are monitored through closed-circuit (CC) TV cameras installed along snowfall routes to enable proactive responses. In case of snowfall forecasts, a pre-emergency alert system is implemented, and 62 remote automatic spreaders and 32 road heating cables are operated for swift action.

Especially this year, efficiency is enhanced by commanding the field centered on 15 community service centers. They are responsible for personnel deployment, work instructions, and status reporting to maintain the situation. When a level 3 alert is issued for snowfall exceeding 10 cm, all staff will be deployed.

Additionally, private snow removal services and 129 private equipment units (dump trucks, bobcats, excavators) and military units will be mobilized. Two hundred volunteers will also be recruited to assist. For residents, a “Clear Snow in Front of My House and Store” campaign will be conducted to encourage voluntary participation.

The opening ceremony was held on the 15th with attendance from Gwangjin District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho, national and district directors, and the local autonomous disaster prevention group. They discussed improvements to the 2024?2025 snow removal measures and collaborated to build a more thorough safety network.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, “Since a large amount of snowfall is expected this winter, we are making thorough preparations for flawless snow removal operations,” adding, “We will concentrate all administrative efforts to fully support safe daily life from winter disasters.”
