The attending city council members agreed to work together to ensure that the Uiwang~Gwangju highway contributes to regional development and improved transportation convenience. In particular, they decided to review various measures for residents' convenience, such as the addition of interchanges (ICs), and to thoroughly prepare for environmental issues arising from the highway construction.
Additionally, Gwangju City Council stated that since SOC projects linked with Yongin, such as the extension of the Gyeonggang Line and the Yongin~Gwangju Expressway private project, are actively being promoted, they plan to maintain a close cooperative system with Yongin City Council.
Meanwhile, the Uiwang~Gwangju Private Highway is an important route connecting the Second Gyeongin Expressway and the Second Yeongdong Expressway, linking Uiwang through Yongin to Chowol. Once this road opens, it is expected to significantly improve accessibility between the east and west regions, as well as greatly enhance traffic convenience in the Opo area.
Chairperson Jo Ye-ran stated, “I hope this meeting will serve as an opportunity for the mutual growth of the two cities, and I will do my best to actively reflect the opinions of citizens so that the Uiwang~Gwangju Private Highway project can be of practical help to Gwangju City.”
