Spanish Daily Newspaper Stops Musk's X Usage..."Spread of Misinformation" Elon Musk Tesla CEO Yonhap News

Following the British progressive daily The Guardian, a Spanish daily newspaper has also decided not to post its content on Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter).

La Vanguardia, a centrist daily published in Barcelona, Spain, announced on the 14th (local time) that it would "stop posting content on X and suspend its account."

La Vanguardia pointed out that "X has become a platform where conspiracy theories and misinformation spread," adding, "Unless effective and rational content management is implemented on this platform, it provides a channel for such false information to spread more widely."

It also raised concerns about the surge of misinformation on X related to the major flood disaster that occurred in the Valencia region of Spain at the end of October.

However, La Vanguardia explained that it will continue to follow certain individuals, companies, and institutions on X to inform readers about social issues, and its journalists are free to use the platform within the bounds of respecting human rights protection and freedom of expression.

The previous day, the British daily The Guardian also announced it would stop posting content on X. The Guardian stated, "We have been considering officially suspending posts due to the frequent presence of concerning content such as far-right conspiracy theories and racism," and explained that it solidified its decision particularly after observing how the U.S. presidential election coverage was handled on X. The Guardian described X as a "toxic media platform" and criticized that "its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use his influence to shape political discourse."
