Hyundai Green Food Convenient Meal Care Diet Experience
Under 500 kcal per meal, High Protein & Fiber Menu
Uses Low-Sugar Ingredients Instead of Artificial Sweeteners
Health Management Support Through Subscription for a Certain Period

One serving of Samgyeopsal contains 700 kcal, one whole fried chicken has 2000 kcal, and one bowl of Jjajangmyeon has 800 kcal...

These are the calorie counts of common dining-out menus encountered in daily life. Even eating these menus along with rice, side dishes, and alcohol just once a day through delivery, gatherings, or company dinners often exceeds the average daily recommended calorie intake of 2500 kcal for men and 2000 kcal for women.

Modern people are exposed to obesity, hypertension, and blood sugar issues due to late-night snacks, excessive drinking, and irregular eating habits. The trend of 'Healthy Pleasure'?enjoying health management?has emerged to compensate for this. More people are seeking foods that are low in calories, relatively low in sugar and sodium, and reduce the burden on the body. Reflecting this trend, the food industry is expanding care food options.

To see how well and scientifically meal management menus in the form of convenience foods are designed, I personally tried them. The menu I ordered was from 'Greeting,' a care food specialty brand first launched in Korea in 2020 by Hyundai Green Food. I checked online reviews as if searching for a famous restaurant, and many evaluations said that compared to everyday menus encountered in dining out or home cooking, there was no sense of strangeness and the taste was not bad.

Greeting offers over 1,000 recipes organized into categories such as healthy diets and disease-specific diets, providing menus by day. When consumers order the desired period and quantity, the meals are prepared and delivered on the corresponding dates through a made-to-order system. I applied for a trial pack (3 meals) consisting of one day’s worth of healthy diet from the detailed categories, and received two refrigerated low-sugar meals and one frozen high-protein meal via early morning delivery.

I tried the Ginger Pork Roast set and the Mustard Chive Salad set. The two menus were packaged together in a black plastic container. Preparation was simple. After slightly opening the four corners of the packaging, microwave for 2 minutes and it’s ready. The Ginger Pork Roast set included pork bulgogi marinated in soy sauce mixed with garlic, onion, and cabbage, chicken breast stew with zucchini and paprika, and radish namul. The Mustard Chive Salad set contained a vegetable salad with chicory and baby cabbage, and a mustard chive salad with chives, onions, and carrots in sesame mayo dressing, all in one pack.

Before tasting, I expected the seasoning to be rather bland, but after taking a bite of the pork bulgogi, the taste was not much different from what I had when dining out. The subtle ginger aroma stimulated the appetite. The chicken breast stew was also flavorful without dryness. The calorie count of the five side dishes including the two meat main dishes and salad was under 500 kcal. Due to the low-sugar diet nature, rice was not included.

Since I usually overeat, these menus seemed a bit small for one meal, but the feeling of fullness was sufficient. The price for one meal of the low-sugar diet menu ordered via subscription service is 9,500 KRW. Although it is a financial burden, it can be used in 6 or 9 meal forms for specific periods and purposes such as weight loss or blood sugar control. Instead of artificial sweeteners, low-sugar ingredients like kudzu and bitter melon are used, and fiber-rich salads are included, providing some relief to our overworked bodies.

A Hyundai Green Food official explained, "Recently, interest in blood sugar management has been growing not only among middle-aged and older adults but also among the 2030 generation." In fact, from January to October this year, the proportion of 2030 customers in Greeting’s low-sugar diet sales rose 12 percentage points from 30% in the same period last year to 42%.
