From now on, e-commerce products destined for Japan can also be shipped through post offices.
The Korea Post announced on the 14th that it will start the "Korea-Japan Maritime Express" service from the 15th of this month.
The Korea-Japan Maritime Express is a type of contracted e-commerce product service to Japan, where e-commerce items received at domestic post offices are transported to Japan by sea (ship), then re-accepted as parcels locally and delivered to the recipients.
Using the maritime express offers the advantage of being cheaper than air freight. Additionally, by utilizing the ferry route between Busan Port and Hakata Port, which operates six times a week, delivery quality (D+5 days) is ensured. However, the weight of items eligible for maritime express is limited to 10 kg or less.
This service was introduced in cooperation with the Japan Post to support smooth customs clearance and high-quality delivery of e-commerce shipments to Japan.
Previously, the Korea Post signed a partnership with Japan Post, keeping in mind the activation of the e-commerce market between Korea and Japan, to create an export-friendly environment for domestic small and venture businesses.
For more detailed information about the maritime express, please refer to the announcement posted on the Korea Post website or contact the postal customer center for guidance.
Cho Hae-geun, head of the Korea Post, said, "Korea Post will continue to strive to discover and launch products that can meet market environmental changes and customer demands," adding, "Above all, we will place greater emphasis on minimizing the burden on post office customers in this era of high inflation."
