KOCCA Lays Foundation for Entry into North American Animation Market

'K-Animation Global Showcase' in Canada

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency announced on the 14th that the 'K-Animation Global Showcase,' which concluded on the 8th in Toronto and Vancouver, Canada, induced export consultations worth 22.18 million USD (approximately 31.2 billion KRW).

The 'K-Animation Global Showcase' is a meeting platform aimed at co-production and investment attraction for K-animation. It invites key local buyers to conduct pitching showcases, business consultations, and on-site studio meetings.


Canada was chosen as the first host country as a strategic move to indirectly target the US market, which is known to be impregnable. Canadian studios co-producing with the US were invited to facilitate collaboration.


The event included companies holding intellectual property (IP) such as webtoons and web novels, with experience in co-productions with other countries. Participants included CJ ENM, Locus, Dopara, Dream Factory Studio, Cheongdam Media, Taktun Enterprise, Loco, Studio Double W Baba, among others. Discussions on distribution and co-production possibilities were held with Canadian companies such as WildBrain, Guru Studio, and Epic Story Media.


Park In-nam, head of the Broadcasting and Video Division at the Korea Creative Content Agency, said, "We achieved meaningful results, including receiving co-production proposals from local studios," and added, "Next year, we plan to continue supporting companies' participation to follow up on co-production and export contracts."
