Undergoing Certification Process for WHO Age-Friendly Cities International Network

Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 14th that it held the "Final Report Meeting on the Research Project for Creating an Age-Friendly City in Paju" at the city hall business room on the 13th.

At the final report meeting, 13 participants including Kim Eun-sook, Director of the Welfare Policy Bureau, heads of related departments, and affiliated organizations attended, and policies aligned with the World Health Organization (WHO) Age-Friendly Cities 8-domain guidelines were presented based on the research results so far.

Considering that the elderly population accounts for 15.9% of the total population and is on the rise, the city plans to prepare for entering a super-aged society by undergoing the certification process for the WHO Age-Friendly Cities International Network, and aims to create an environment suitable for certified cities where senior citizens can live comfortably.

Since initiating the research project in May, the city has investigated Paju’s age-friendliness through surveys on the elderly and in-depth interviews with field experts, and based on this, established the vision and goals of "An Age-Friendly City Created Together with Citizens" at the interim report meeting.

Kim Eun-sook, Director of the Welfare Policy Bureau, stated, “If the environment is good for senior citizens to live in, all generations can lead healthy lives,” and added, “We will do our best to create an age-friendly city where all citizens can actively participate in the community even as they grow older.”
