Awarded Encouragement Prize for Active Groundwater Conservation and Management
Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 14th that it won the Encouragement Award at the ‘5th Groundwater Conservation and Management Excellence Local Governments Selection’ ceremony held at ‘Groundwater Korea 2024’ event at Daegu EXCO on the 13th.
The Ministry of Environment conducted a contest targeting 228 local governments nationwide to share exemplary groundwater management cases and improve administrative service levels in the groundwater sector, ultimately selecting three local governments.
The city received high evaluations for its active groundwater conservation and management, including sustainable field management system operation, establishment of Goyang City groundwater management plan, restoration management of abandoned wells, groundwater pipe measurement monitoring, and exemplary cases utilizing discharged groundwater.
Kim Su-o, Director of the Green City Project Office, said, “In the era of climate crisis, we will do our best to enhance the utilization of groundwater resources as future water resources and to conserve clean groundwater through systematic and efficient management.”
