A New 'SK Road' in Hungary... SK On Battery Plant Sailing Smoothly

Road Connecting Battery Factory and Highway
SK On Recognized as Leading Company in Pays de la Loire
Expanding European Battery Production to 47.5 GWh

A road named after the SK Group will be established in Hungary. The local Ivancha plant operated by battery company SK On has been recognized as a representative regional company.

On the 14th, SK On announced that a road approximately 1.8 km long, from the entrance of the Ivancha Industrial Complex in Ivancha City, Fej?r County, Hungary, to the entrance of the SK On Ivancha plant within the complex, has been named "SK Road (SK ?t)." This road connects to the M6 highway, which links the Hungarian capital Budapest with the southern region.

At the plaque unveiling ceremony held on the 12th (local time) at the SK On Ivancha plant, SK On officials including Kim Se-jin, head of SK On Europe, as well as key local figures such as Tibor Moln?r, mayor of Ivancha, and Gabriella Safar, notary of Ivancha City, attended.

Mayor Moln?r said, "SK On Hungary, the largest company in this area, plays a key economic and industrial role not only in Ivancha but also in the larger Duna?jv?ros region. We will do our best to build a strong relationship with SK On, and I believe this plaque unveiling marks a new milestone in that journey."

The Ivancha plant is SK On’s third battery production base in Hungary, following the Kom?rom Plant 1 (7.5 GWh) and Plant 2 (10 GWh). Investment was decided in January 2021, construction began in the third quarter of the same year, and commercial operation started in the second quarter of this year.

The plant is expected to have an annual production capacity (CAPA) of 30 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in the future. Based on a 70-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery capacity capable of driving over 400 km on a single charge, this corresponds to supplying batteries for approximately 430,000 electric vehicles. SK On’s total battery production capacity in Europe will also be significantly expanded to 47.5 GWh.

Production is currently progressing smoothly. SK On has introduced the latest equipment and automation systems extensively at the Ivancha plant. By consolidating manufacturing experience and know-how accumulated at the Kom?rom plant, the yield exceeded 90% just three months after operation began, achieving early stabilization of the plant. Considering that early stabilization usually takes about six months during initial plant operation, this means the ramp-up period was cut in half.

SK On has been striving for mutual growth with the Ivancha community. Notably, over two years in 2021 and 2022, a total donation of 15 million forints (approximately 50 million KRW) was made to public foundations in Ivancha City. The donations were used for improving the urban environment, school facilities, revitalizing local events, and supporting vulnerable groups with daily necessities.

Kim Se-jin, head of SK On Europe, said, "It is a great honor that 'SK Road' has been officially named based on the trust of the local community. We believe in the power of partnership and will cooperate with all stakeholders based on openness and mutual trust."
