Dragonfly, a pioneer in the FPS market, announced on the 13th that it has unveiled 'Special Force Remaster' for the first time at G-STAR 2024. The company has taken a strong step forward to reclaim its position as a leading FPS developer.

The Special Force Remaster version, exclusively showcased at the B2B booth in Busan BEXCO, is expected to offer a new era FPS gaming experience by combining the fast-paced gameplay of 'Special Force,' which led the FPS genre 20 years ago, with innovative graphics powered by the latest Unreal Engine and modern tactical elements.

Recently, the FPS market has been dominated by latecomer games such as Battlegrounds, Crossfire, and Sudden Attack. Meanwhile, Dragonfly’s ‘Special Force,’ a pioneer in FPS games, lost market share to competitors despite its excellent gameplay due to a lack of major updates and graphic improvements. In particular, the company faced a management crisis following issues with its largest shareholder in 2014, leading to stagnation in growth and weakening its market position.

Under newly appointed management, Dragonfly is rapidly normalizing operations and seeking new opportunities through the release of new mobile games, striving to regain its former glory. The launch of ‘Special Force Remaster’ is expected to serve as a key signal of this management normalization and an important milestone for re-entering the global market.

Since its service launch in Korea in 2004, ‘Special Force’ has been a globally popular PC online FPS game representing Dragonfly, serviced in over 90 countries across Southeast Asia, China, North and South America, and Europe for 20 years. The newly revealed ‘Special Force Remaster’ is produced under the supervision of Park Cheol-seung, Dragonfly’s founder and executive director, who directly developed ‘Karma’ and ‘Special Force.’

Executive Producer Park Cheol-seung stated, “This remaster maintains the fast-paced gameplay that was Special Force’s strength, while applying the latest Unreal Engine to create realistic battlefields, special forces uniforms, and weapons. This remaster will captivate next-generation players and also rekindle the original excitement for longtime fans.”

At G-STAR 2024, Dragonfly will unveil the remastered alpha version of ‘Desert Camp,’ the representative map of ‘Special Force,’ and plans to complete the full remaster and beta version with new systems by the second half of 2025.

Executive Producer Park Cheol-seung added, “Special Force Remaster is a symbolic game announcing Dragonfly’s revival and a tribute to our fans. We will strive to once again become the center of the FPS genre based on our new management vision and technological capabilities.”

This ‘Special Force Remaster’ is expected to be an important work that goes beyond a simple remaster, expressing Dragonfly’s firm commitment to the gaming market and establishing new growth momentum.
