Honoring the Noble Sacrifice of Hakdobyeong and Promoting Security Awareness

About 20 people attended the memorial ceremony, including Park No-geuk, Deputy Governor of Gapyeong-gun, Kim Kyung-soo, Chairman of the County Council, members of the Student Volunteer Soldiers Veterans Association, and officials from veterans and security organizations. They honored the noble spirits of the student soldiers who devoted themselves to defending the homeland during the Korean War (June 25, 1950).

The solemn memorial ceremony was at risk of being discontinued after the passing of Mr. Shin Il-gyun, the head of the Northern Gyeonggi Branch of the Student Volunteer Soldiers Veterans Association, who had been organizing the event until 2023. Accordingly, Gapyeong-gun took charge of the event this year to continue the noble spirit of the student soldiers.

The ceremony proceeded with moments of silent prayer to honor the patriotic martyrs and national heroes, flower offerings, and incense burning. It was a meaningful time to commemorate the noble sacrifice of the student soldiers and to promote awareness of national security.

A Gapyeong-gun official stated, “The freedom and peace we enjoy today are thanks to the sacrifices of these student soldiers,” and added, “We will review plans to continuously promote the memorial ceremony honoring the noble spirit of the student soldiers in cooperation with related organizations in the future.”
