Ministry of Employment and Labor Conducts On-site Safety Inspection of Waste Disposal Business Sites

Review of Safety Management for Various High-Risk Facilities

The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency will conduct on-site inspections targeting the sanitation and similar service industries (such as waste disposal) on the 13th, in observance of the 21st Field Inspection Day, to prevent industrial accidents.

Industrial safety and health inspectors from local employment and labor offices nationwide will examine the safety management status of high-risk machinery and equipment such as waste shredders and scrap metal compactors at workplaces in the sanitation and similar service industries during this inspection. They will also provide guidance on safety rules to prevent accidents that may occur during maintenance and repair work.

In addition, they will identify and improve hazardous and dangerous factors at each workplace, distribute major accident cases and key safety rules to ensure that safety measures for workers are implemented. For workplaces handling primary and secondary waste batteries, including waste sulfuric acid and waste hydrochloric acid, compliance with safety rules to prevent fire and explosion risks will be checked.

Choi Tae-ho, Director of Industrial Accident Prevention Policy at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, said, "Waste disposal and similar industries are high-risk fields for safety accidents, and when accidents occur, they can affect not only the workers at the workplace but also the surrounding environment and local communities." He added, "Workplaces must always prioritize safety and it is important to practice practical occupational safety and health measures such as maintaining workplace cleanliness, providing worker safety education, and conducting fire and emergency response drills."
