Catholic University Wins Two Awards in Generation Convergence Business Consulting Competition

Hosted by Gyeonggi-do, Organized by the Economic Science Promotion Agency

Catholic University students won two awards, including the Excellence Award and the Encouragement Award, at the '2024 Gyeonggi-do Generation Convergence Business Consulting Project' hosted by Gyeonggi-do and organized by the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency.


The 'Gyeonggi-do Generation Convergence Business Consulting Project' is designed for teams consisting of baby boomer retirees and young university students to solve various challenges in management, investment, research and development, marketing, and other fields faced by small and medium-sized enterprises in the province.


In this project, which involved about 260 university students from four universities including Catholic University and about 50 baby boomer consultants, Catholic University’s teams ‘Lucky Sikyoung’ (Advisor: Professor Heo Gwang-young) and ‘Motmallijo’ (Advisor: Professor Im Hyun-seon) won the Excellence Award and the Encouragement Award, respectively.

The ‘Lucky Sikyoung’ team (Kang Min-ji, Shin Ji-hyun, Lim Se-eun from the Department of Food and Nutrition, and Park Chan-hee from the Department of Business Administration) took charge of consulting for 'Moon Food' and developed a new product called ‘Spoonable Carob Choco Pie’ using ‘carob’ as a substitute to address the issue of rising cocoa raw material costs. They were highly praised for analyzing costs, proposing a practical substitute, and planning a new product that fits the latest trends, earning the Excellence Award.


The ‘Motmallijo’ team (Lee Hae-ran from Business Administration, Byun Jun-yeop from Public Administration, Yang Da-eun from Biotechnology, and Kim Yeon-ju from French Language and Culture) helped increase sales of the main product of Weedy Tech, a sliding door closer manufacturer. They were recognized for various activities including developing product brochures targeting institutions where safety management is critical such as schools and hospitals, renewing the Smart Store to boost online sales, and conducting live commerce aimed at attracting female customers in their 30s and 40s, winning the Encouragement Award.


Seong Jae-yeol, Director of the Catholic University Comprehensive Business Support Center, said, "During this generation convergence project, students were able to improve their practical skills by learning know-how from baby boomer retirees," adding, "We will continue to actively support students so that they can directly apply their major knowledge to industrial sites, solve problems, and gain diverse practical experience."
