Kim Young-sun's Primary Plan Announced at Dawn, Myung Tae-gyun Called Yoon Seok-yeol
Former People Power Party Emergency Committee Chairman Kim Jong-in and Mr. Myeong Taekyun were in a close consulting relationship, according to Mr. Myeong's lawyer. There was also a claim that the background of the call between President Yoon Seok-yeol and Mr. Myeong regarding former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun's nomination was due to the involvement of Reform New Party lawmaker Lee Jun-seok as an intermediary.
On the 12th, Kim Soyeon, the legal representative of Mr. Myeong, appeared on MBC Radio and expressed her position on the suspicions raised concerning Mr. Myeong, who was investigated by the prosecution.
Lawyer Kim said, "Mr. Myeong first met former Chairman Kim around October or November 2020," adding, "Since there were others who met together, I think former Chairman Kim should not lie about the timing of the meeting." She explained, "Since articles from the prosecution have come out, I have no choice but to speak in detail," and described their relationship as "one where former Chairman Kim sought advice almost daily."
Former Chairman Kim has claimed that he first met Mr. Myeong in March 2021. Regarding this, Lawyer Kim introduced, "In October or November 2020, Mr. Myeong went to greet former lawmaker Kim, and the next morning, former Chairman Kim called Mr. Myeong." She also mentioned the methods and content of their communication. Lawyer Kim said, "They contacted each other via phone and messages, and in 2022, during the local elections, former Chairman Kim asked for opinions regarding the unification of candidates for Daegu mayor involving Kim Jae-won and Yoo Young-ha." She also stated that the prosecution has secured the content of their conversations.
Regarding the background of the prosecution obtaining the conversation contents between former Chairman Kim and Mr. Myeong, Lawyer Kim explained, "During the process when Ms. Kang Hyekyung was cut off from the party and the local party office was withdrawn, she stole all the hard disks from the computers," adding, "The prosecution conducted a search and seizure of these hard disks at the end of September. Among them, there was a computer used commonly, and it seems Mr. Myeong used KakaoTalk on this PC."
Lawyer Kim also said that the call recording file between President Yoon and Mr. Myeong, which was disclosed by the Democratic Party, started because of lawmaker Lee. Lawyer Kim introduced, "On May 9, 2020, around midnight between 12:20 and 12:30 a.m., Lee sent a KakaoTalk message to Mr. Myeong saying that Yoon wanted to have Kim Young-sun participate in the primary." She continued, "He insisted that the primary should specifically include former lawmaker Kim. At that time, Mr. Myeong was in charge of the overall campaign for prospective candidate Kim Young-sun, and the People Power Party leader suddenly mentioned the primary a day before the announcement," adding, "Lawmaker Lee discussed with Mr. Myeong to tell the First Lady, and the next day, the call between President Yoon and Mr. Myeong was connected, resulting in the problematic recording."
Lawyer Kim said, "The context started with lawmaker Lee," and added, "In the early morning, Lee sent a message to Mr. Myeong that President Yoon wanted former lawmaker Kim to participate in the primary, which led to this."
