Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance announced on the 12th that it has launched the industry's first 'Silver (Senior) Emergency Braking System Equipped Vehicle Discount Special Agreement,' which helps prevent accidents involving elderly drivers (aged 65 and over).
The newly established special agreement can be subscribed to for automobile insurance contracts starting from December 21. It is expected to reduce rear-end collisions involving elderly drivers aged 65 and over. Drivers operating vehicles equipped with an emergency braking system will receive an average insurance premium discount of 2.7%.
As society enters an aging phase, interest in preventive measures is increasing due to the rise in traffic accidents involving elderly drivers. The increase in traffic accidents among elderly drivers is mainly attributed to decreased physical reaction speed.
The emergency braking system is a driver assistance technology that automatically applies the brakes to prevent collisions when the distance to the vehicle or pedestrian ahead on the road rapidly decreases and the driver fails to respond.
A representative from Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance’s automobile insurance product department stated, “Through the launch of this product, we expect to help elderly drivers drive more safely and reduce their economic burden,” adding, “We will continue to develop products that contribute to customer safety and alleviate economic burdens.”
