The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Park Seong-nam, City Council Chairman Kim Yeon-gyun, Jeon Hee-kyung, Chairperson of the People Power Party Uijeongbu Gap District Committee, city council members, heads of related organizations, university students, and about 200 local residents.
Along with the opening ceremony, various celebratory events were held, including the side events "Matirang" Alley Market and "Meotirang" Cultural Market on Gyeongmin University Road, as well as the linked event, the 815 Citizen Walking Event, receiving great responses.
Lee Sang-rae, representative of the Gyeongmin University Road Shopping District Residents' Council, said, "On behalf of the merchants, I sincerely thank all those involved who worked hard to create the brand 'Gyeongmin University Road' and revitalize the alley commercial district."
Deputy Mayor Park Seong-nam stated, "I thank the students of Gyeongmin School and local residents for enduring inconveniences during the construction period. I hope Gyeongmin Square will establish itself as a complex cultural space and help revitalize the Gyeongmin University Road alley commercial district." He added, "We will continue to provide citizens with a pleasant and safe urban environment through urban regeneration projects."
Gyeongmin Square is planned to be used as a cultural and artistic performance venue and a communication space for local youth after discussions on operation and management by the Gyeongmin University Road Village Management Community.
