A YouTuber released a video showing a crash accident after encountering turbulence while paragliding in Danyang, Chungbuk, a famous paragliding spot.
Blue Genie, a camping YouTuber with 70,000 subscribers, uploaded a video titled "Paragliding Crash Experience That Almost Said Goodbye to the World" on her YouTube channel on the 3rd. Blue Genie explained the video, saying, "I am grateful to be alive and healthy. They say that out of 1,000 jumps, 1 to 3 accidents occur, and half of those accidents result in fatalities in paragliding. This is a paragliding experience where I was lucky enough to come back alive."
In the video, Blue Genie showed her visit to Danyang, Chungbuk, for her first paragliding experience. After putting on safety gear and preparing for the glide, she jumped off a high mountain with the pilot.
While soaring and showing the beautiful scenery of Danyang, she soon encountered turbulence. Blue Genie's expression instantly stiffened, and with a scream, she began to fall. The pilot riding with her quickly moved the control stick, and the parachute, shaking back and forth, landed on dense trees. The accident occurred about a minute after starting the glide.
When Blue Genie, caught in the trees, asked, "Are you hurt?" the pilot replied, "I'm not hurt, are you okay? Are you hanging on well?" Blue Genie answered, "I'm fine. Hanging on well," and through subtitles, she added, "Fortunately, the parachute got caught on the trees, so there were no injuries." The pilot explained that it was caused by the turbulence.
A few minutes later, paragliding company staff brought a ladder and rescued Blue Genie and the pilot caught in the trees. After safely touching the ground, Blue Genie sighed with relief only after leaving the forest path and reaching the roadside. After getting into the vehicle, the pilot said, "You did well," and added, "These things happen occasionally."
Blue Genie said, "Maybe because I almost died just now, the evening scenery feels infinitely beautiful," and added, "The important thing is to be healthy and live long."
Netizens who watched the video responded with comments such as, "You must have been shocked, but it's a huge relief," "Health and safety come first," "They say accidents happen in an instant, it was a close call. You handled it calmly, but you must have been so scared," and "Now you can live a more wonderful life with a new start."
Meanwhile, paragliding crash accidents occur frequently. According to statistics provided by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board, from 2019 to early October last year, there were a total of 42 paragliding crash accidents in Korea, of which 22 cases (52.3%) were fatal.
Recently, on the 27th of last month, an accident occurred at a gliding site in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, where an instructor and a participant crashed due to a gust of wind while paragliding, but it was reported that they fell onto trees and sustained minor injuries.
