Focus on Pohang-style Smart City Expo Utilizing Innovative Technologies like AI and Big Data

From the 5th to the 7th, Pohang City participated in the ‘2024 Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC)’ held in Barcelona, Spain.

This event is the world's largest smart city international expo held annually in Barcelona since 2011, where countries, cities, research institutions, and large corporations from around the world participate to share their technologies and smart city-related visions.

This year’s event expanded by about 1.6 times compared to last year, with over 1,100 companies and cities from more than 130 countries participating. Pohang City participated for the second consecutive year together with the POSCO Holdings consortium.

Under the theme ‘Live Better’, ‘Cities for a Better Life’, seven detailed conference topics were held: ▲Implementation Technology ▲Energy & Environment ▲Mobility ▲Governance & Economy ▲Living & Inclusion ▲Public Infrastructure & Architecture ▲Marine Economy.

The city was selected as an excellent smart city local government and operated the ‘Smart City Pohang Pavilion’ within the ‘Integrated Korea Pavilion’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, widely promoting Pohang’s smart city project status and achievements on the global stage.

Also, based on the goal of a ‘Venture Innovation Smart City’ and the strategy of a ‘Regional Win-Win Smart City’, Pohang attracted visitors’ attention by realizing a high-level smart city that only Pohang can achieve.

Three companies?a regional large corporation operating the nation’s first Smart City Innovation Center and three startups running Pohang smart city services such as TaboSo, Revenue-Sharing Taxi Roof Advertising, and ALL IoT TAXI?introduced their innovative services, executed based in Pohang, to major European countries, Japan, Saudi Aramco, and other global companies.

A Pohang city official said, “Through participation in this expo, we were able to confirm that Pohang has secured a differentiated model from other global smart cities,” adding, “We will expand the startup ecosystem in the smart city field and create the world’s only smart city where all city members grow together with a greater vision and broader inclusiveness.”
