A man in his 40s who went missing after a car fire while driving was eventually found dead.

On the 11th, the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency announced that they had arrested and were investigating a man in his 40s, Mr. A, in connection with this case. According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of stabbing a man in his 40s, Mr. B, with a weapon inside a car parked at a restaurant parking lot in Dongmun-dong, Seosan-si, Chungnam, around 10 p.m. on the 8th.

Mr. A then drove Mr. B’s car out of the parking lot and subsequently abandoned Mr. B’s body and mobile phone near a secluded waterway and an empty lot. Afterward, he set fire to Mr. B’s car near an empty lot behind an apartment complex on a hillside in Seosan-si and fled the scene.

Mr. B last contacted his family by phone at 9:39 p.m., shortly before the incident, and about 40 minutes later, the rental car he was driving was found burned near an empty lot behind an apartment complex on a hillside in Seosan-si, prompting a police investigation.

When police and firefighters responded to a report from an apartment resident, the car was empty. While identifying Mr. B through vehicle registration checks, the police received a missing person report from Mr. B’s family on the 9th and began an investigation, arresting Mr. A at an undisclosed location in Seosan-si on the afternoon of the 10th.

Mr. A confessed to the crime, stating to the police, "I did it because I had no living expenses due to gambling debts and other liabilities. I stole about 100,000 won from Mr. B’s wallet." The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for Mr. A once the investigation is complete.
