Shinsegae Sold 2 Trillion Won in 10 Days of SSG Day... "Achieved Sales Record"

Shinsegae Group announced that sales from the year-round largest shopping festival, '2024 SSG Day,' held from the 1st to the 10th of this month, exceeded 2 trillion KRW. This figure represents a 20% increase compared to last year's SSG Day and surpasses the initial sales target of 1.9 trillion KRW.


This year's SSG Day was held over the longest period ever, lasting ten days from November 1st to 10th, including two weekends.

At Emart, which held SSG Day for three days from the first weekend, November 1st to 3rd, sales exceeded 100 billion KRW in just one day on the 2nd. This is the first time Emart has surpassed 100 billion KRW in daily sales. During this period, customers flocked to benefits such as SSG Day signature products, half-price discounts on Korean beef, and pick-and-choose events.


Looking at sales by item, Korean beef sales increased by 111%, reaching 10 billion KRW in sales. Imported butter sales rose by 23%, and olive oil sales surged by 176%. Notably, olive oil sold out at every store despite minimal promotion, as its affordable price spread by word of mouth. Customers also flocked to special purchase opportunities for home appliances such as TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines, resulting in a 28% increase in large appliance sales.


Shinsegae Department Store attracted customers with events such as a pop-up store for the Netflix animation 'Arcane,' inspired by the popular game 'League of Legends.'


During this SSG Day period, sales growth rates by major affiliates were ▲Department Store 30.3% ▲Duty-Free Shop 132% ▲Shinsegae Food 59% ▲Starbucks 58% ▲W Concept 33%, among others.


Sales growth through live commerce was also notable. Gmarket and SSG.com collaborated with major home appliance brands to offer discounts on lifestyle appliances such as laptops, washing machines, and refrigerators. On the day of live broadcasts, Gmarket recorded its highest-ever sales for the robot vacuum cleaner 'Roborock.'


Travel products, one of the main themes of this year's SSG Day, also gained popularity. Sales at Chosun Hotel & Resort increased by 74%, and sales of travel products sold online also rose significantly.


Starfield, where various SSG Day events were held, also attracted many customers. At Starfield Goyang, a total of six companies, including three Shinsegae affiliates, participated in the 'SSG Day Village,' operating offline experience booths. Over the ten days of SSG Day, the number of visitors to SSG Day Village reached approximately 21,000. This is the highest number of visitors among all pop-up stores held at Starfield and exceeded the original target of 5,000 visitors.

Specifically, Starfield Goyang, Suwon, and Anseong set up separate spaces to hold large-scale clearance sales with ultra-low prices. Additionally, various events such as parades featuring popular characters like Cookie Run, Hello Carbot, and Shinbi Apartment were held. Thanks to these efforts, sales at Shinsegae Property, which operates Starfield, increased by 8.1%.


Shinsegae explained that external partnership promotions also played an important role in the success of SSG Day. The 'SSGSsumSSum' event, conducted in collaboration with the virtual asset exchange Bithumb, which gave away Bitcoin worth 10 billion KRW, recorded 650,000 participations.


Shinsegae Group stated, "The 2024 SSG Day achieved two goals successfully: diversifying the shopping experience and enhancing consumer benefits, recording unprecedented results," adding, "We will continue to strengthen customer-centered products and services and present various events that meet consumers' expectations."
