Speaker Woo Won-sik Sends Congratulatory Letter to Trump... "Confident in Further Development of ROK-US Alliance"

Woo Won-shik, Speaker of the National Assembly, who is on an official visit to Brazil and Panama to attend the G20 Speakers' Meeting, sent a congratulatory letter to President-elect Donald Trump of the United States.


According to the National Assembly on the 11th, Speaker Woo wrote in the letter to President-elect Trump, "On behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, I sincerely congratulate you on being elected President of the United States of America," and added, "I believe your election reflects the American people's support for a message of change and hope." In the letter, he expressed his hope that "the United States will leap forward as a greater nation and open a bright future," and emphasized, "I am confident that the Republic of Korea and the United States will further develop their strong alliance based on unwavering mutual trust and friendship, and I hope that the friendly cooperative relationship between the peoples of both countries will continue to grow."

Speaker Woo also sent congratulatory letters to Korean-American elected officials including Congressman Andy Kim. To Congressman Andy Kim, he said, "Your election is very meaningful as you are the first Korean-American to enter the U.S. federal Senate." In addition, he sent congratulatory letters to pro-Korea members of the U.S. House of Representatives elected in this election, including Ami Bera, Joe Wilson, Mike Kelly, and Gerry Connolly, asking them to "play a role in closely communicating and cooperating on issues facing both Korea and the United States, as well as in building peace on the Korean Peninsula."


Speaker Woo also sent congratulatory letters to Vice President-elect James David Vance and Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Mike Johnson.
