The "Guri City Smart City Living Lab" is a citizen-participation-centered smart service that applies core technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and big data to solve inconveniences and local issues experienced by citizens in urban spaces.
Since May, the city has started this Living Lab project, and through proactive discussions led by experts and citizen participants, it reviewed local issues and derived 16 solutions across four sectors (roads & traffic, energy & environment, culture & tourism, medical & welfare). Among these, the final solution selected for the pilot project was "Neowa Na-ui Yeon-gyeol Guri."
This project installs health monitoring devices for elderly individuals living alone to collect and analyze vital data such as heart rate, respiratory rate, and tossing and turning during sleep. Based on this data, it monitors signs of health abnormalities in the elderly, aiming for early detection and prevention of dementia in old age. It is a sleep care service for elderly people living alone.
The city expects that by analyzing data from the usual sleep environment of the solution recipients, it will also help provide sleep health coaching and improve sleep environments.
The main service technologies include △ measuring sleep status using IT sensors and technology △ measuring and analyzing respiratory rate, heart rate, body weight, sleep apnea index, and actual sleep time △ personalized sleep status monitoring △ identifying long-term health variation trends based on monitoring results △ sharing health information such as emergency prevention and pre-medical guidance.
An elderly participant in the project said, "I am grateful to Guri City for empathizing with the problems of the elderly, communicating, and providing proactive care services," and added, "I hope the project will be fully implemented as soon as possible."
Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri City stated, "We will actively promote this project to guarantee a healthy life through sleep care for Guri citizens and provide services that can prevent health abnormalities in elderly individuals living alone, becoming the first and best local government that takes responsibility for citizens' health starting from their sleep, with no blind spots in care welfare."
