A Special Homage to Korean Literature Translators
The Korea Image Communication Institute (CICI) announced on the 11th that the recipients of the 'Korea Image Awards 2025' are fencing national representative Oh Sang-wook, Korean-American chef Edward Lee, and table tennis national representative Shin Yu-bin.
Oh Sang-wook will receive the Didimdol Award, given to Koreans and companies who have contributed to promoting Korea's image worldwide. He is the double gold medalist in fencing at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. He was praised for demonstrating the strength of Korean fencing by winning both the men's sabre individual and team events.
Edward Lee, the runner-up on Netflix's cooking survival program "Black and White Chef," will receive the Jinggeumdari Award, given to foreigners who have served as a bridge to promote Korea globally. This is due to his creative presentation of Korean cuisine using Korean ingredients. He was recognized for proving that food can be a medium that conveys philosophy and culture beyond taste.
The Kkotdol Award, given to those who have helped blossom Korea's image on the world stage, will be awarded to Shin Yu-bin, who won two bronze medals in mixed doubles and women's team table tennis at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
CICI will also present a special homage to Korean literature translators in celebration of Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature. They regard these translators as unsung heroes who have introduced the originality, emotion, and depth of Korean literature to the global literary community and have prepared a special video.
The awards ceremony will be held on January 15 next year at the Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
