"Supporting to Become a Successful Model for Adoption Green Space"
Seocho-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 11th that it held an opening ceremony for the newly renovated Seocho-dong Catholic Church’s ‘Seoripul Garden’ through Seoul’s first-ever ‘Green Space Adoption Program.’
On May 21, the district signed the first green space adoption agreement with Seocho-dong Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of Seoul for the 2,400㎡ facility green space next to the church, thereby implementing the ‘Green Space Adoption Program.’ This program allows local institutions and organizations to adopt and manage public green spaces.
The purpose is to make the facility green space, which was difficult to manage due to its secluded location, comfortable and safe to use through public-private collaboration. According to the agreement, the district completed overall maintenance last month so that local residents can enjoy and heal in the garden.
The event held on the 10th celebrated the opening of ‘Seoripul Garden,’ Seoul’s first adopted green space, and emphasized managing it as a pleasant and cozy green area. The ceremony took place after the church mass, with church parishioners and local residents attending. The parish priest of Seocho-dong Catholic Church stated, “From now on, Seocho-dong Catholic Church will manage Seoripul Garden in a clean and safe manner,” adding, “We will continue to cooperate with the district office to hold various cultural events so that Seoripul Garden can become a place for communication with local residents.”
Meanwhile, the district is leading exemplary cases of green space management through public-private cooperation, such as signing an adoption agreement for Seraegol Neighborhood Park, the first adopted park, with HS Hyosung in July. Through the park adoption agreement, Seraegol Neighborhood Park is expected to be transformed into a community space that brings joy to residents and reborn as an oasis in the urban area.
Seocho District Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “We will provide all necessary administrative support so that Seoripul Garden becomes a successful model for the upcoming second and third adopted green spaces.”
