This concert was held to commemorate the 44th anniversary of Venerable Unheo, an independence activist and Buddhist scripture translator who had a profound influence on propagation and the development of Buddhism.

In 1936, Venerable Unheo established Hongbeop Institute, a Buddhist educational institution at Bongseonsa Temple, dedicating himself to nurturing future scholars. In 1970, he built the ‘Geunbeopdang,’ the first hall in Korea to display a signboard written in Hangul, widely promoting his love and dedication to the Korean alphabet.

The event featured performances by the children’s Buddhist choir ‘JH Choir’ and the youth Buddhist group ‘Sangwol B-Boy,’ formed to foster future Buddhists and revitalize Buddhism. It was a meaningful performance that received great acclaim, continuing the spirit of Venerable Unheo, who devoted himself to youth propagation.

Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “It is an honor to participate in the autumn concert held in commemoration of Venerable Unheo’s memorial service at Bongseonsa Temple, a central temple in northern Gyeonggi Province. I pray that the blessings of Buddha will always be with the many believers, including the youth Buddhists who have brightened today’s event.”
