Mayor Hong Nampyo: "Hope to Create Special Memories Enjoying Winter Romance and Unique
Attractions in Changdong"
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is holding the "5th Snowy Changdong Street Snowflake Festival" for a total of 24 days from every Friday to Sunday until December 29th in the area around Changdong Intersection in Masanhappo-gu.
The opening ceremony held on the 8th at Changdong Street included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and artificial snow spraying. The event was successfully held with the attendance of Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Jeong Gyuheon, Provincial Assembly member, city council members, and the president of the traditional market merchants' association.
Now in its fifth year, the festival reflects the reality that it is difficult to see snow in winter due to Changwon’s climate characteristics. It is a unique event that creates a distinctive winter atmosphere using lighting and artificial snow. On event days, from 6 PM to 9 PM, every hour on the hour, artificial snow fills Changdong Street for 15 minutes, offering visitors a magical moment as snowflakes flutter down from the sky.
Moreover, the festival offers more than just the enjoyment of snow. The street features various sculptures that create beautiful scenery and provide a romantic winter atmosphere. Cute winter-themed sculptures such as polar bears and snowmen are placed throughout the street, creating photo zones perfect for families and couples to take pictures together.
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, “Through this festival, I hope people can enjoy the romance and warm atmosphere of winter on Changdong Street and create special memories with their loved ones.” He added, “We will continue our efforts to help Changwon grow into an even more attractive cultural and tourist destination.”
