"Ukraine's Drone Attack Attempt"
On the 10th (local time), Sergey Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, announced that 32 drones targeting the Russian capital were shot down. Reuters reported that this is considered the largest-scale Ukrainian drone attack attempt on Moscow since Russia launched its 'special military operation' in Ukraine in February 2022.
Mayor Sobyanin stated on Telegram that "so far, 32 drones flying towards Moscow have been shot down." He added that drones were shot down in areas including Ramenskoye, Kolomenskoye, Domodedovo, and Kolomna in the Moscow region, and emergency rescue teams were dispatched to the sites.
Reuters reported that Ramenskoye, located 45 km from the Kremlin, the office of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was also targeted during a large-scale Moscow attack attempt on September 9th when 20 drones were shot down.
Russian aviation authorities announced on Telegram that "to ensure the safety of civilian air traffic operations, the operations of two airports, Domodedovo and Zhukovo, will be temporarily suspended." Subsequently, temporary restrictions were also imposed on Sheremetyevo Airport.
Separately from the drone attacks on Moscow, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that a total of 23 drones were shot down in the Bryansk, Rostov, Belgorod, and Kursk regions of Russia.
