The operator of 'NunuTV,' an illegal streaming service for domestic online video content (OTT), has been apprehended. Both the illegal streaming website and the webtoon site have been shut down.
On the 10th, the Copyright Crime Investigation Unit of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that they had arrested the operator of the illegal streaming website NunuTV on the 9th. The illegal streaming website 'TVWiki' and the illegal webtoon posting site 'OKTOON' operated by the same individual were also immediately closed.
Currently, when accessing TVWiki, a notice states, "The Copyright Crime Investigation Unit of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism arrested the operator of the illegal streaming website NunuTV on November 9, 2024, and seized the illegal webtoon site OKTOON operated by the same individual," informing users of the service suspension.
A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official explained, "We arrested the operator of NunuTV on the 9th and shut down the illegal sites he operated," adding, "The notice displayed on TVWiki was issued by the Ministry."
Established in 2021, NunuTV was a controversial site that illegally streamed new paid OTT content from both domestic and international sources. With servers located in the Dominican Republic, NunuTV continued operations by evading government crackdowns through domain changes and other tactics.
In April of last year, when the Ministry of Science and ICT began daily URL (internet address) blocking, NunuTV announced its service termination but resumed service three days later under the name 'NunuTV Season 2.'
As government pressure continued, NunuTV Season 2 ceased operations again in June of last year. However, a year later in June, NunuTV reappeared with a business address in Paraguay, prompting the Copyright Crime Investigation Unit to move to apprehend the operator.
