Australia possesses vast farmland covering 370 million hectares, equivalent to 49% of its territory and 37 times the size of South Korea. This has led to a rapidly growing need for efficient agricultural resource management and smart farm technology. Accordingly, the Australian government is establishing various projects to promote the adoption of advanced agricultural technologies and is focusing on research and development of smart farm technologies.

In particular, smart farm technological innovation is focused on reducing agricultural productivity risks caused by climate variability. Under the mid-to-long-term plan (Ag2050) to grow the agricultural sector into a 100 billion Australian dollar industry by 2050, the government is concentrating support on developing and commercializing smart agricultural solutions for agriculture-related startups and research institutions.

This event was held in line with these trends. It served as a platform for Korean companies to enter the Australian agricultural market and an opportunity to further strengthen future cooperation foundations.

The event included a Korea-Australia smart farm industry trend seminar, introduction of promising local projects, and one-on-one business consultations between Korean and Australian smart farm companies. A webinar was held simultaneously to expand participation opportunities for domestic smart farm companies. During the consultation sessions, a K-food promotion event featuring ramen, sauces, pears, ginseng, and other products actively exported to Australia was held together with the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, attracting significant attention from buyers. Thirteen domestic companies wishing to enter the Australian market and 32 local major agricultural companies, research institutes, and associations conducted 59 one-on-one business consultations.

Lee Hee-sang, head of KOTRA’s Southeast Asia and Oceania Regional Headquarters, said, "Korea’s IoT solutions and drone technologies are evaluated as innovative technologies applicable to Australian agriculture. Through this Korea-Australia Smart Farm Roadshow, we expect to explore cooperation with local agricultural companies and research institutions and increase exports of related products."
