Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, Encourages Kendo and Dream Tree Baduk Tournament Participants

On the 9th, Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) hosted the '15th Mapo-gu Mayor's Kendo Tournament' and the '9th Mapo-gu Mayor's Cup Dream Tree Baduk Tournament.'


At 11:30 AM, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, visited the kendo tournament site, which was hosted by Mapo-gu and the Mapo-gu Sports Council and organized by the Mapo-gu Kendo Association, to encourage about 200 athletes.


On this day, the athletes competed fiercely, creating a tense atmosphere as they stood straight and raised their bamboo swords high to attack their opponents.


Later, at 1 PM, Mayor Park Gang-su visited the Mapo Central Library, the venue for the Dream Tree Baduk Tournament.

Hosted by Mapo-gu and the Mapo-gu Sports Council and organized by the Mapo-gu Baduk Association, this tournament was held for toddlers and elementary school students, with about 250 aspiring Baduk players participating on site.


The young Baduk players participating in the tournament demonstrated excellent concentration, placing stones on the Baduk board with expressions as serious as professionals, predicting their opponent's moves, and devising strategies.


Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu said, “We prepared the tournament so that residents can fully enjoy kendo and Baduk, sports that require high-level strategy and concentration as well as etiquette and respect,” adding, “Mapo-gu will actively expand the base of community sports for the healthy lives of Mapo residents.”
