This competition was held through joint cooperation between city and county local governments and wildfire-related agencies within Gyeonggi Province, with 13 cities and counties participating in fierce competition.
The competition was organized to master the configuration and operation methods of mechanized wildfire suppression systems of each city and county in case of wildfire occurrence, to enhance wildfire suppression capabilities by city and county, provide opportunities for information exchange, assess initial on-site response capabilities, and strengthen practical suppression techniques and response capabilities in preparation for the autumn season when wildfire frequency increases.
Yangju City demonstrated rapid and systematic wildfire suppression response capabilities in this competition and was evaluated highly for its excellent on-site suppression handling skills. In particular, it perfectly executed the rapid wildfire suppression equipment operation techniques and on-site response training required by the competition, achieving the highest score among the 13 participating cities and counties and winning the first-place grand prize.
The competition process involved installing a suppression hose and a simple water tank from the wildfire suppression vehicle to a point 100 meters away, turning at the turnaround point to operate a second pump to install another 100-meter suppression hose, and completing the process of filling a 50ℓ water container at the destination in the shortest time possible. This scenario evaluates how quickly initial suppression can be performed when a wildfire occurs, assessing wildfire suppression capabilities and the operation skills of key wildfire suppression equipment. Yangju City completed the evaluation process in the shortest time among the participating cities and counties, winning the first-place grand prize. This achievement proved the city’s advanced wildfire suppression capabilities based on steadily accumulated practical wildfire suppression skills and continuous training.
Yangju City has pledged to further strengthen its wildfire suppression capabilities and take the lead in protecting local forests following this award.
Mayor Kang Su-hyun said, “This award is thanks to the relentless efforts and dedication of the Yangju City Wildfire Prevention Headquarters and the specialized wildfire prevention and suppression team. We will continue to strengthen the system to protect citizens’ lives and property through rapid and effective response in case of wildfire occurrence.”
Yangju City plans to continue education and training for wildfire prevention and suppression activities and will do its best to protect forests and ensure disaster safety.
