Revitalizing the Jangheung Tourist Area with the Relaunched Suburban Line
Mayor Kang Su-hyun: "Jangheung's Important First Step to Becoming a Global Tourist City"
Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 8th that it has received approval from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to extend the operation period of the ‘Jangheung Culture and Arts Experience Special Zone’ for three more years until 2027.
First designated in 2008, the ‘Jangheung Culture and Arts Experience Special Zone’ is a ‘local special zone’ where visitors can experience and enjoy culture and arts tailored to the characteristics of the Jangheung tourist area within the city.
A ‘local special zone’ is a system in which the Ministry of SMEs and Startups designates certain areas as special zones upon application by local governments to promote regional specialized development and revitalize the local economy by applying regulatory exemptions.
The city explained that it succeeded in obtaining approval for the extension of the special zone period by receiving excellent evaluations overall, including plans for the △Art Town creation project △Cultural city infrastructure establishment project △Operation of five-senses satisfaction experience programs.
This extension approval includes the activation of tourism on the Gyoeoseon Line, which will open in December this year, and plans to develop various tourism programs linked to the opening of the ‘Gyoeoseon Line’ to foster the special zone into one with diverse content such as education, experience, and learning.
Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju said, "This extension of the special zone is not just a simple extension of the period but an important first step toward making Jangheung a global tourist city growing around culture and arts," adding, "We will strive to maximize Yangju’s cultural potential to provide tangible benefits to local residents and establish Yangju as an attractive tourist destination for visitors.”
