Medical Student Group Urges Medical Association Delegate Council to Pass Vote of No Confidence Against President Im Hyuntaek

Delivering a Statement to the Delegates of the Korean Medical Association

A group of medical students expressed their hope that the Korean Medical Association (KMA) Delegate Assembly will impeach KMA President Im Hyun-taek.

The Korean Medical Students Association (KMSA) delivered a statement with this content to the KMA delegates on the 8th.

The statement was written in the name of student representatives from 39 out of 40 medical schools participating in KMSA. The medical school of President Im, Chungnam National University College of Medicine, was excluded.

The medical students stated in the statement, "Students from 40 medical schools nationwide have the right to receive quality medical education and the duty to protect it," and "Since February, students have been at the forefront to prevent the collapse of medical and educational fields caused by the 'essential medical policy package including an increase of 2,000 students.'"

They continued, "Nevertheless, President Im Hyun-taek has ignored the voices of students, and his reckless remarks and incompetence over the past eight months have brought great despair to the students," criticizing him.

They added, "The students have concluded that they cannot trust President Im and that it is impossible to form a cooperative relationship in the future," and "We hope that the motion of no confidence against President Im will be passed at this KMA extraordinary delegate general meeting."

KMSA will hold an expanded general student representative meeting on the 15th, attended by representatives from each grade, to discuss the current situation and the future direction of the association.

The KMA Delegate Assembly's extraordinary delegate general meeting to vote on the no-confidence motion against President Im and to form an emergency countermeasure committee will be held on the 10th.
