Latest Trends and Technology Sharing
Korea Airports Corporation held an event to share the latest trends and technologies in aviation safety and navigation safety systems.
On the 8th, Korea Airports Corporation announced that it hosted the 33rd International Seminar on Navigation Safety Facilities in Mapo-gu, Seoul. Navigation safety facilities are essential installations that provide distance, azimuth, and location information to ensure aircraft can safely fly to their destinations.
The theme of this seminar was "Strengthening Aviation Safety and Innovating Navigation Safety Systems Based on Smart Technology." It consisted of three sessions: ▲ Strategies and directions for enhancing aviation safety and innovation ▲ Advanced operation of smart navigation infrastructure ▲ Development of the latest navigation safety system technologies and research trends.
The corporation presented the development direction of the Navigation Safety Facility Performance Inspection Drone System (DIVA), which it developed domestically for the first time in 2018 and successfully commercialized. Unlike the existing method of inspecting along the aircraft flight path from a distance, the drone performs vertical and horizontal flights, proposing a three-dimensional flight path that allows more precise inspection of navigation safety facility signals at close range.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced the "Basic Policy for the Development of the National Navigation Safety System," and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) presented the "Aviation Safety Cybersecurity Policy." Other topics included the development direction of safety certification for AI-applied aviation systems (Aviation Safety Technology Institute), research on the introduction of Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) at Incheon Airport (Incheon International Airport Corporation), and the current status of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) traffic control system development (Hanwha Systems).
Lee Jeong-gi, Acting President of Korea Airports Corporation, said, "As the aviation industry accelerates digital transformation with AI, digital twin, and other technologies, we will contribute to creating a safe flight environment through technological innovation in navigation safety systems."
