Namyangju City Conducts Dementia Prevention Program for Elderly Living Alone, 'Find Your Memory'

The Namyangju Public Health Center (Director Jeong Tae-sik) announced on the 8th that it held a presentation event for the cognitive enhancement program "Find Your Memory!" conducted three times from October 16 to November 7 for elderly living alone using the customized care service at the local senior welfare center.

The Dementia Safety Center of Namyangju Public Health Center implemented cognitive enhancement programs such as △assembling bead puzzles △writing yesterday’s diary △coloring coloring books under the guidance of life instructors visiting the elderly living alone for the past year to promote dementia prevention.

At this presentation event, the elderly shared their works created through cognitive enhancement activities over the past year and had time for mutual exchange.

An elderly participant said, “It was enjoyable because I could prevent dementia and make new friends.”

Another elderly participant who took part in the program sent a thank-you letter saying, “Although I could not attend the presentation activities due to mobility difficulties, writing yesterday’s diary for a year improved my memory and helped me develop a habit of spending each day more meaningfully.”

Jeong Tae-sik, director of Namyangju Public Health Center, emphasized, “Elderly living alone have a high risk of dementia due to difficulties in nutrition and emotional management, but without family to care for them, they are easily placed in a blind spot for dementia prevention. We will strive to discover more people in these blind spots and work on dementia prevention in the community.”
