Namyangju City Successfully Hosts Parent Education Lecture: "Is My Child Addicted?"

Prepared to Help Understand and Prevent Media Addiction in Adolescent Children

Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 8th that it held a special parent education lecture titled "Is My Child Addicted?" on the 6th at the multipurpose hall of the Gyeonggi Viewer Media Center.

This special lecture was organized to help parents of adolescent children understand and prevent their children's media addiction.

With about 100 parents attending that day, the parents learned about the principles of addiction and coping strategies, seeking ways to effectively resolve media addiction issues through communication with their children.

The lecture was given by Professor Seo Jeong-seok from the Department of Psychiatry at Chung-Ang University, focusing on raising parents' awareness of their children's excessive immersion in media such as smartphones and internet games, and learning how to prevent and address these issues.

It also emphasized the necessity of understanding the patterns of media addiction and prevention based on the brain development and psychological growth processes of adolescent children.

One attending parent shared, "It was beneficial to learn about the correlation between brain development during adolescence and media addiction, and to receive information that helps me understand my child."

A Namyangju City official stated, "We hope this parent education lecture will be of practical help to citizens with adolescent children," adding, "Going forward, the city plans to collaborate with the Youth Counseling Welfare Center to provide various education and counseling programs so that youth and parents can understand each other and build better relationships."
